A Florida man will be serving hard time after posing as a member of the Wu-Tang Clan to swindle several hotels out of more than $300,000.

According to a report from Atlanta's WSB-TV on Tuesday (March 16), a 29-year-old man named Aaron Barnes-Burpo was sentenced to seven years in prison after pretending to be a member of the Staten Island, N.Y.-based rap crew and affiliated with Roc Nation to dupe hotels out of services for free. He has reportedly been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Southern District of Georgia's Acting U.S. Attorney David H. Estes applauded an employee at the hotel for a job well done. "For several weeks, these men defrauded multiple businesses by posing as famous musical artists and their retinue," Acting U.S. Attorney Estes said. "Thanks to an alert hotel clerk, their phony hit parade came to an abrupt halt."

The report also notes that in court documents and testimony, Barnes-Burpo alongside his co-defendant Walker Washington, confessed to "falsely portrayed themselves as affiliated with the Roc Nation production company and the hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan as early as September 2019, and used those fictitious representations along with fraudulent and stolen credit cards to rent luxury limousines and defraud hotels, caterers and production studios of thousands of dollars in goods and services in multiple cities, primarily in the Southeast."

The Georgian Terrace hotel and the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta said that the duo failed to pay bills of $45,000 and $39,000, respectively.

On Nov. 21, 2019, staff at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Augusta, Ga. became skeptical of Barnes-Burpo and Washington, and this is when their scam began to dissolve. The hotel workers then notified the FBI and the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

In addition to Barnes-Burpo serving seven years behind bars, he must also repay almost $300,000 to 19 businesses that were victims of his defrauding scheme and serve three years of supervised release.

Washington, 52, on the other hand, is awaiting sentencing. He was charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud as well.

Redman VERZUZ Method Man (Watch party)

10775560698?profile=original

Funfacts

Method Man, the only rapper to appear on Notorious B.I.G. and 2 Pac albums while the two artists were alive, is primarily known for his music as a member of the Wu-Tang Clan (“Method Man”). In 1994, Method Man released the first of his six solo albums including “Tical,” a RIAA-certified platinum album, and “Tical 2000: Judgement Day.”

Standout tracks from those albums include “Bring the Pain,” “Judgement Day,” and “Break Ups 2 Make Ups,” featuring past Verzuz guest D’Angelo, and “I’ll Be There for You/You’re All I Need to Get By,” Method Man’s duet — a wildly popular wedding song — with legendary R&B singer Mary J. Blige.

Redman, a Def Squad affiliate (Erick Sermon and Keith Murray) who debuted in 1992 with “Whut? Thee Album,” is known for a string of hits including “Time 4 Sum Aksion,” “Tonight’s da Night,” “Can’t Wait,” “I’ll Bee Dat”, and “Let’s Get Dirty (I Can’t Get in da Club),” among many others.

The two joined forces for “How High,” a track from the 1995 album “The Show: The Soundtrack,” and later parlayed their friendship — and charisma — into a film, movie soundtrack and TV series by the same name, along with other albums including “Blackout!” and “Blackout! 2.”

Poet and author Kevin Powell says the friendship between Method Man and Redman is tangible proof of how two highly successful creatives can produce timeless music while staying close.

“Method Man and Redman are not only two of the greatest characters in hip-hop’s history, but their deep friendship has endured across styles and eras of culture

JAY-Z, Roc Nation, and the NFL are already off to a rocky start with their social justice initiatives. Earlier this week, an announcement hit the news cycle of JAY-Z & Roc Nation in partnership with the NFL, would be donating $400,000 to Chicago youth charities. One of the groups that received a donation, the Crusher’s Club, came under fire after pictures of the nonprofit's director cutting off the dreadlocks of young Black men in Chicago resurfaced. According to the Crusher’s Club original post, the cutting was symbolic for the young men's "desire for a better life."

If the pictures and sentiment behind cutting off the young men's dreadlocks weren't deemed problematic enough, it was also revealed that the organization has championed messages of "All Lives Matter" in retort to the BLM movement, as well as tweeting "We need Trump to help us," on the heels of Trump's tone-deaf solutions for quelling violence in Chicago.

Many are considering JAY-Z and the NFL's first "actionable item" as a misstep, which could reinforce the public's skepticism of the partnership. Nevertheless, this isn't the type of press the NFL was hoping a deal with Hov would garner.

On Saturday, the Ku Klux Klan staged a parade through the small North Carolina town of Roxboro in the name of Donald Trump's victory. The parade had been scheduled by the KKK following the election. 20 to 30 vehicles drove through the town, waving Confederate and KKK flags and shouting, "White power," and, "Hail victory." Roxboro Police Chief David Hess acknowledged that there was nothing authorities could do to prevent the parade. He did, however, tell a reporter, "I and the City of Roxboro do not condone the beliefs of the KKK," and later added on Twitter, "My heart is heavy that our community was chosen by the KKK to spread their message." As of 2015, there are 190 active KKK groups in the U.S. Source: huffingtonpost.com

10775440256?profile=original DSTRKT, a popular London nightclub frequented by American celebs like Drake, Rihanna, and Jay-Z, is under fire today after four women claim they were denied entry because of their race.

According to Zalika Miller, an actress and presenter, she and her friends weren’t allowed into the club because they were deemed “too dark” and “too fat.”

“Prior to us actually getting to the club, the [promoter] wanted pictures of the girls that my friend was going to bring,” Miller told London’s Black newspaper The Voice. “He basically said, if she was going to bring Black girls then they’ve got to be of ‘a certain caliber. She sent him pictures of me and another girl that was coming and I guess he gave his approval.”

Apparently, their pre-approval didn’t mean anything in the end. When the group got to the West London club they were told they couldn’t get in.

Miller’s friend, Lin Mei, who was in contact with the club promoter, explained what happened.

“Once at the front of queue, the lady at the door asked us whose list we were on,” she explained via email.

The hostess then disappeared into the club, but returned minutes later to say the venue was full. Mei called her friend Daniel, who told the group to wait for his arrival so he could get them in.

“Daniel then called me and stated Ugo Allessio (the manager) needed to see all girls,” she explained.

Allessio requested the women line up against a wall across the street so he could size them up via closed circuit TV.

“When I told the girls they were disgusted,” Mei said.

Minutes later, Daniel met the women outside and told them they wouldn’t be allowed into DSTRKT.

“Daniel came over to me and stated it’s because the girls are too dark,” Mei explained via email.

Daniel, Mei said, was confused because he felt all of the women were attractive, but the manager of the club wouldn’t budge.

Faced with this upsetting info, Mei went to speak with Allessio to see why the group was being turned away. According to Mei, Allessio said she could come in because (she’s biracial), but her friends could not.

Mei shared screenshots of her text conversation on Twitter.

Flow, who is signed to Young Money, originally was booked July 1 on a pair of murder charges in the slayings of a longtime friend, Kendrick “Muddy Cup” Bishop, 22, and his 18-year-old brother, Kendred Bishop. The siblings were shot dead May 25 as they sat in a Kia sedan in the 3800 block of Bright Drive.

She is newly charged on two obstruction counts.

Also arrested in the killings, and indicted this week, was alleged accomplice Jonathan “Lil Joe” Evans, 18, who has remained behind bars on $535,000 bail since his initial arrest.
